Dr Buddhini Samarasinghe

Is a science communicator with a background in molecular biology and cancer research. Buddhini has authored a series of articles in Scientific American, titled “The Hallmarks of Cancer.” She provides science outreach through broadcasts on YouTube. Her science writing can be found at Jargonwall.

Professor Rajini Rao

Is a research scientist and Professor at Johns Hopkins University, where she runs the Rao Lab, which focuses on the role of ion transporters in human health and disease. She is also director of the Graduate program in Cellular and Molecular Medicine that trains PhD scientists at the interface of basic and clinical research. Rajini has chaired the Biophysical Society Committee on Professional Opportunities for Women (CPOW), which provides resources and organizes events that promote professional career development. Rajini is also a frequent speaker and organizer on panels focused on women in science.

Dr Zuleyka Zevallos

Has a PhD in Sociology. She works in policy and research and has run national equity and diversity programs and projects for STEM, academia and vocational training. Zuleyka’s research has focused on gender, sexuality and ethnic inequality, amongst other topics. She runs Sociology at Work, a not-for-profit network promoting applied social science. Zuleyka is an Adjunct Research Fellow with the Swinburne University. Zuleyka writes about social justice and public science on The Other Sociologist.
